As said by Ameris Solano of the Fayetteville Observer, “A meal at the Turkish Grill is akin to being a guest in a friend’s home.” A small, friendly place, the Turkish grill offers a tasty variety of traditional Turkish dishes at family prices.
The various kebabs, such as the savory kofte and spicy adana, actually use better-grade meat than is used in Turkey. The doner meat used is really Greek gyro, but this is understandable given problems of supply. The shepherd’s salad is spot-on, the tea is Turkish, and the baklava and other sweets are all good by American standards. Keep your eye out for the white bean with lamb fasuliye stew, the chicken tava in a stone dish, or any other recurring one-day specials—they are the cook’s special for a reason! Hummus, dolma, baba ganoush, and falafel are also offered, all passing the standard without being noteworthy.
More than just offering a wholesome, affordable meal, what sets the Turkish Grill apart are the owners Seyfi and Frances, who are warm, generous, and always welcoming to new and regular customers alike. They took what had been a struggling Mediterranean restaurant and turned it into a bustling enterprise, largely by making customers feel at home.
A recommended stop for anyone who is in the area and would like a nice meal.
